I Am Soooo Angry!

Well if you didn't guess from the title of the thread... i am very p**sed off right now!

I sent my camera body in for repair on 19th April with Photo Optix in Guildford, luckily i had a spare body. They call and let me know how much it is for the repair and i give them to go ahead to fix it (after already paying £25 for the estimate fee).

Its been ages since the quote and i give them a call yesterday and there is no answer, so i just think "oh maybe they are closed on mondays after being open on the weekends" (some shops do this), i think i'll just call them again tomorrow.

Well tomorrow is now today and i call them again... no answer... hmm... i better check their website and see if they have a head office at all (i think they are a chain), so i goes on the website and it is redirecting me to a page that says...

"Suspension of Website
Please be advised that Stephen Cork and Joanne Milner of Smith & Williamson were appointed Joint Administrators of Photo-Optix Limited on 6 June 2008, accordingly this website has been suspended until further notice. Should you have any queries please do not hesitate to contact Smith & Williamson on 020 8492 8679."

I'm now thinking, shit!! i have less than 2 months before my next wedding as well as camping trips and i have been quite protective of my spare camera body... its so nice having a spare!! plus its all the money to get another spare and why the hell should i have to pay out to get a new one!

So i phone the solicitors dealing with Photo Optix and she informs me that they have gone into administration on friday, and they have been doing a stock take yesterday and today, and if i let her know the details of my camera and my address and she will get in contact as soon as possible.

Lets just hope they will and god knows what state my camera will be in!!

OMG Sam ,this is awful

You must be bloody furious plus, completely stressed out.

I really hope you can get this resolved very quickly, and you do get your body back in one piece and okay..

Personally I would go down to the shop to get my camera back today! Catch them whilst you can, because once they're gone there will be little chance in getting it back I would think.

I would take all your reciepts etc so they know it's yours - personally I wouldn't leave it any longer..

Just spoke to my fella and he has calmed me down a bit and said that the solicitors will know that the repairs are not their stock and will value up all the money they will be getting in from the customers for the repair, and as i will be giving them money for the repair (yes i will still have to pay for it) they will sort out my stuff quickly as they will be getting money from me, which is what the administrators want.

Sam sorry to read your tale of woe, wot a bummer. I had nearly the same a couple of years ago over a bathroom suite from Tiles-are Us. they supplied the whole suite except for the bath side panel. Luckily we bought it on a credit card and the credit card company refunded the cost of the panel.

Hopefully everything will get sorted via the solicitor. You don't say if the camera was insured, if so might be worth giving the insurance company a call.

The problem is when a company ceases trading you can't sue the company owners because you dealt with the company not the owners, i don't really know the answer, but it is a pretty sure bet the £25 estimate fee has gone.

All I will say to all members try and buy goods with a credit card, at least you can either refuse to pay for that item on the card or as in my case have the credit card company refund you your financial loss.

I think we will all be very interested in the outcome Sam. so please keep us informed.

Azz more than likely the shop is no longer there so paying a visit is a waste of time.

I took out an insurance for my photographic equipment with Photoguard, its not cheap but at least it should cover this type of thing as well as usual damage/theft etc.

I have public liability insurance, which does cover my equipment but took it out after the camera had been damage and the estimate given which is a pain!

Will give the solicitor a nudge tomorrow and see what she says... i'll keep in their ears about it until i get it back!

Oh Sam that really sucks! Make sure you dont pay anything for the repairs untill you get your cam back.

ummm, I worked for an electrical store that went into administration, not to be a bad news bearer, but the administrators kept all the stock, customers or not, broken or fixed.
