a sad day !
a sad day for me ! i dropped my camera on friday and the focus wont work !just keeps clinking and grinding !i even put it away on the weekend hoping it would fix itself! god im so gutted feel like a good cry !!!!!!
even more gutted that i didnt even insure it !!!

Maybe i should learn from your mistakes 
I couldnt afford to replace mine if i dropped it...
rumour has it theres a D50 for sale in the for sale/wanted forum. lol
If you don't know someone who has a nikon with a lens you could try, just take it to jessops and see what they think.

and then when all is well insure it.
photoguard 50 quid a year or a pound a week sure worth it.
but always check the small print

I'm a bit suprised your house contents insurance doesn't cover it. I dropped my electric guitar a few years back and it was covered.
