Pytilia, plover and Doves

Some of the local species from the last few days.....
Green Winged Pytilia

Three banded Plover

Turtle Doves (boring, I know, but they look so fat and healthy!)

I still can't the re-sizing (apart from anything else!) right - the image just seems to get ruined as soon as it is reduced?

Re: Pytilia, plover and Doves

Those are great, and what fantastic species! The last ones look moer like collared doves than turtle doves, but maybe in other countries it's different?

Gorgeous images though. It's a shame the tail of the bird in the first photo is slightly out of focus. Lovely and sharp though - and wonderful colours!

Re: Pytilia, plover and Doves

Superb photos Sam - very good quality and fantastically composed.

I agree with Zoundz - the last picture is Collared Doves - not Turtle doves.

Let's see more like these.

Re: Pytilia, plover and Doves

Oh very nice, bird shots are really tricky as they are rarely still, I like them all, especially the warmth of the third shot and the reflection of the second.

Re: Pytilia, plover and Doves

Very nice crisp photos, well composed & exposed. They are certainly sharp.

I have discovered while shooting ducks & squirrels that the beeping sound made while auto-focusing, grabs the attention of animals. They briefly freeze, allowing a stable shot. It also works when pumping off 3-4 shots in continuous shooting mode. The shutter sound gets them to look at you.

Re: Pytilia, plover and Doves

Many thanks for the feedback - greatfully received!
Zoundz, you are right about the tail, I always struggle with the little hyperactive guys - DoF vs shutter speed - but as the light was really strong there was no excuse really!
bobmielke, that's a good tip, I'll give it a try. Generally, I try to keep all the noise down to a minimum - some of the other things I try to get pics of find any noise offensive and are pretty forward about showing their disapproval!
