re-sizing

Whats the best way and easiest way to re-size pictures, and what is the best size for on here?
Kit 1
Nikon D40x
Nikon 18-55mm
Nikon 55-200mm
My Compact/P&S: Sony DSC-W70

Best size would be 600 or 800 pixels on the longest length.
I dont bother resizing my images as my flikr account does it for me. It can be done in Photoshop by going Image>Image Size.

I tend to use Irfanview to resize, or Paint

For the current size of the site - 690 px wide fits perfectly in the posts

I use photoshop
