The fly

First picture post on Yo - not sure what kind of fly this is, maybe somebody knows? Found in the Trossachs!

Kit 1
Nikon D5000
Nikon 18-55mm f/3.56G VR
AF-S DX VR Zoom-Nikkor 55-200mm f/4-5.6G IF-ED

Looks like one of those that pretend to be a bee or wasp, will consult the book and if I can find it will get back to you.

Also wondering what part of the anatomy it is about to walk on, the mind boggles as they say.

EDIT: Sorry the best I can come up with is some sort of Hover Fly

I would have guessed hoverfly - but I am pretty clueless!

Its a deer fly and not a very nice insect. Hover flies are harmless but a deer fly - you wouldn't want it any where near the trossachs.

We can't afford deer flies around here, we tend to go for the common bluebottle or horsefly.
