To bid or not to bid?

I would like the Nikon 85mm F1.8, and TBH I have never bought a second hand piece of photography equipment, so what are your experiences of Ebay?

http://cgi.ebay.com/Nikon-Nikkor-85m...item439d9cbb2e

I am seriously tempted at that price.

Re: To bid or not to bid?

Ebay is OK although there's less bargains these days. I've not bought a used lens from ebay but I've bought photography bits and bobs.

Feedback for the seller looks OK

It would be a nice portrait lens & 85mm is ideal on 35mm and full frame although it would be quite long 128mm (ish) on your Nikon 300.

50mm is popular because it gives this kind of focal length on a cropped body.

Will she - won't she.....

Re: To bid or not to bid?

That is why I am dithering about it, my 50mm is ideal on my D300, but I want the 85mm for candid shots I am doing at weddings with my D300. So I don't have to get too close
I am looking towards the future, and full frame, with all my lens purchases, and at that price it's a bargain.

mmm will keep an eye on it,this is why I prefer buy it now on Ebay, you either buy it or you don't, it is horrible when you miss out on something you really want.

Plus, I almost bought a D700 the other day.

It's lunch time here, and I am eating chicken salad at the same time as cruising Ebay, and I am finding all types of goodies for sale

Re: To bid or not to bid?

Nice lens, but with 2 days left don't expect it to be much of a bargain

D700 is meant to be getting discontinued soon isn't it?

Also, isn't it nice we can ponder/get excited over purchases now without being sneered at (that's an in joke for any newbies reading!)

Re: To bid or not to bid?

I do buy off ebay and had no problems , BUT I only generally deal with companies from Hong Kong for lenses, and pay through Pay Pal who don't pass on the full credit card details. Watch out for any import/tax/ postage charges to add to the price.

Re: To bid or not to bid?

Will just keeping watching for now, or might just enter my max bid, and if I get it great, and if I don't ,oh well

Yeah, I heard the D700 is being discontinued too, maybe that is why they are dropping a bit in price???? I had intended on going Full Frame next year, but if they drop seriously in price, might be tempted.
