Manfrotto 680B Monopod

On my motorcycle ride to the coast yesterday I decided to give my new Manfrotto 680B monopod a try. It's the first time I've used it since I purchased it for Christmas. I was really impressed how easily it fit into my motorcycle trunk along with my small camera bag and hat. It's heavy for a monopod but really light compared to my 055XPROB Manfrotto Tripod. The tripod must be strapped to the outside of the bike, being much too big to fit in my bike luggage.

The monopod adjusts quickly when used with my Manfrotto 222 joystick head, adding nearly a foot to the overall length of the system. Switching from landscape to portrait orientation is a snap.

I attached the quick release plate from the joystick head to my D90 body and basically left the camera on the monopod as I walked around the docks in Astoria, OR. It took mere seconds to adjust the height to eye level and perfectly framed photographs.

I can tell this versatile tool will travel with me on many future shoots when space is at a premium.

Re: Manfrotto 680B Monopod

Glad you're enjoying it Bob. I ended up with one similar to that one - the Manfrotto 322RC2 which can be used on it's side or upright like your one. Somebody was kind enough to lend it to me when I only had use of one arm and it made life much easier (albeit on a tripod) than my 3 way head which was impossible one handed. Ended up buying it off him the end.

The hand grip on the Joystick head makes composition a snap. Going to portrait mode couldn't be easier. I was impressed. I bought a rugged version to handle my 70-300mm Sigma zoom.

Re: Manfrotto 680B Monopod

I want to get one too at some point - esp as the high iso isn't that great on a d40.
