Wil this work for my camera and speedlight?

If I get this, will I be able to put it on top of my Canon 300D then have it trigger my 420EX Speedlight?

I'd tend more towards a radio trigger tbh. Bit more cash but inherently more reliable.

Re: Wil this work for my camera and speedlight?

The optical flash adapters like the one you are looking at work pretty well on older flash heads, the problem with modern bodies is that they do a pre flash a few milliseconds before the main flash for exposure settings, this invariably sets the flash off early, you can get ones that (apparently) ignore preflash.

I have used some of these with my 300D, 30D and 5Dmk11 and they have worked fine when the camera is set to manual mode.

The wireless ones are okay too, and you can get a single, dual or quad set for anything from just above a tenner upwards. You will find them easily on ebay.

Check the seller feedback carefully before buying.

Alan.

Yes it will work, but because it does not support TTL you can only use your flash in 'manual' mode, so I think your flash will fire at full power all the time, so the only control you will have will be using your aperture setting on your camera, or moving the flash closer/further away.

The advert lists the 420 EX as being compatible.

The same trigger can be found here with a little more information:

All the best,
Alan.

Re: Wil this work for my camera and speedlight?

Thanks so much! I'm all a bit clueless with the technical stuff!
Are there going to be ones that allow the flash to work in TTL (not that I know what that means) if I look around?

http://www.firstcall-photographic.co...anon-flashgun/

Don't know if this is of an help and may not be the cheapest outlet but at the bottom of the page it says suitable for the 300D. If it doesn't fit on top of the camera there is always the option of using a bracket so the flashgun fits alongside the camera
