Taken with the 1.7X teleconverter lens.

I rigged the curtains over the patio doors like a bird hide with clothes pegs and laced the garden with ground fat balls and maggots as the birds were very nervous.

Re: Taken with the 1.7X teleconverter lens.

If I could mention that one has to be aware of over cropping and sharpening. the First 2 photos show signs of overcropping and the last photo if you look closely at the starlingd under the beak in the chest area and neck is showing signs of over sharpening with the "ghosting" outline in those 2 areas

Picture no 4 is far better in my opinion with great detail. See I don't always post doom and gloom because you can take great pictures.

Fair comment Bazza and thanks for your honesty. Still wearing a big red L plate, but keen to learn.

Couple of clothes pegs did the job.

Looks like I need to cut the grass though.

Re: Taken with the 1.7X teleconverter lens.

Definitely very noisy, but you're getting the hang of catching the birds at least, now to work on improving the quality! You'll get there in no time. Try and get down on a level with them... make perches at eye level if you can, or if you want pics of them in the grass, you could lie down and photograph them from that angle

Re: Taken with the 1.7X teleconverter lens.

Richard if we never made any mistakes how would we learn You should be changing those L plates to P plates now. These arent too bad other than what has been mentioned about the noise and ghosting. Noise and sharpening issues can be dealt with easily enough Would you happen to have originals of these images still??

Re: Taken with the 1.7X teleconverter lens.

Sorry for the delay in replying but I have been away for a few days in the wilds of North Yorkshire with no TV, radio, internet or mobile phone coverage. I don't think I have the originals.
