Venus Pool

As the rain let up for a few hours, I managed to get out to a local bird sanctuary.

Re: Venus Pool

Thank you. The lighting was rather peculiar. The venue was a hide in a wooded area next to a lake, so the subjects were in shade to start with.

The sunlight was very weak and 'watery' as the sun peeped from behind rain clouds, giving, as I say, a very peculiar light.

Just a case of waiting for the right moment to take the shot.

Re: Venus Pool

They are both female woodpeckers, the males have a red skull cap.

Re: Venus Pool

Not at all Bazza. I particularly wanted some shots of the woodpecker in it's natural surroundings and not on a feeder.

This tree seemed to be a favourite of these birds to perch and have a good look around before feeding. The male just wouldn't oblige me by looking around, the blighter.
