Merry Christmas Bob

Each Christmas I buy myself something special. On my limited income I had to be especially frugal in my choice. Since I sold most of my glass to get the D7000 body I wanted to expand the capability of my remaining 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 VRII lens. I have a Nikon TC-17EII 1.7x TELECONVERTER f/D-AF-S in the mail that should be here in about 3 days. This will effectively give me a 30-340mm f/5.6-8 lens. I chose this option because in my use of my VRII lens I seem to always be at the 200mm end of the zoom and wanting more. I can't afford longer lenses so this will add focal length and increase Depth of field perspective. Nikon makes some of the best teleconverters in existance so I'm staying with this choice, which is unique.

Yes Phil, because it's a Nikon product both autpfocus and Vibration Reduction are fully functional. I made sure to verify these before plunking down that much money.

Just thought I'd ask as I know a few people who have found that with TC's - they don't get AF when they thought they would. Nothing to do with lens incompatibility or the AF system not 'working' - just the multiplication factor pushing the F to the point where the AF just hunts in anything other than the brightest of light.

Unless you know for sure - you can check out Nikon's TC range and which lenses are 'limited' here......

1.4s are normally OK - limitations start to appear with 1.7s and 2.0s unless you're using fast f2.8 glass.

Thanks Phil. I guess I'll find out for sure when it arrives in a few days.

I made a stupid mistake Suz as this teleconverter won't work with my Nikon 18-200mm F/3.5-5.6 VRII lens. It will only work on a very short list of high end Nikon glass that cost more than 4 times the cost of my new camera. I don't what to do with it other than try and sell it and probably take a beating on the price.

Sorry to hear that Bob.

I did wonder about the fitting when it said something about the rear element on the lens hitting the element on the TC.

No chance of a return on it ?
