New Camera

Well I get my new camera tomorrow, a Panasonic Lumix FZ8, really looking forward to getting to grips with digital, anyway I was just wondering, as the camera can shoot in RAW mode is that the best way to go for max image quality and if so do I need a dedicated RAW program to get the best from it, I have Elements 4.0 but dont know if its included. Hope this makes sense.
