Goes into my lifetime favorites album

I am not sure if it is a Bobcat or Panther cub...I am sure it is a cub and not an adult. Saw it yesterday on a visit to St Marks National Wildlife Refuge. I doubt I will ever see one again! Hugs, Shirley

I can tell you were excited Shirley, you have a little motion blur there, but well done for having your camera at the ready as I would imagine these animals are very shy.

Re: Goes into my lifetime favorites album

Bobcat I would say, though it could be a young Florida Panther? Lucky thing - will forgive the blur - too awesome for words!

Re: Goes into my lifetime favorites album

Thank you all for the comments. I have been looking at on line pics of cubs and it doesn't resemble the pictures I have seen. I sent it to the St Marks office and got a answer from Ranger Moody that it is a Bobcat cub...and I am pretty well convinced it must be. Panther cubs have blue eyes that change to yellow. Both kinds are spotted until almost a year old when the panther loses its spots. Also Panthers don't like the colder winters in northern Florida. Female panthers stay in south Florida, the 2 or 3 year old males do wonder off. It is a very scarse specie...about a 160 are left at or near the Panther Refuge in south Florida. 4 cubs were born this year and all died...no cubs have survived in the last 4 years. Most deaths are from traffic, a few from fights. The speed limit on all roads near panther crossings are posted at 45mph but most people ignore that limit.
Now I wish I had stayed and gotten a better photo or seen it move so I could have seen the rear legs and tail but I was concerned about stressing it...it was so extremely nervious as it was. Hugs, Shirley
