Renting Lenses - advice please?

Hi everyone

I'm in desperate need of some advice, I want to rent a couple of lenses for the two family occasions I told you about that are coming up - mainly for the blessing and christening than the naming ceremony to be honest as I will be the only photographer for the blessing, and I want it to be awesome, as its for my cousin, and my family don't have a great deal of belief in me so I want to prove myself big style....

Any advice will be welcomed, I haven't really been taking many pics this year! I'm from South Wales, so if anyone knows of anywhere to rent lenses? And prices?

I have a canon 30d and I'm looking to rent the L 100-400mm and probably the 10-22mm too.....

Thanks in advance guys!

Re: Renting Lenses - advice please?

I think Calumet are a well known name for camera hire equipment. Quick look at their site & Bristol is your nearest.

Not sure of the name but one company used to do it by mail order and they provided all the stuff for you to return by post.

I really want an L lens and would ideally like to have a good try of it first.

Re: Renting Lenses - advice please?

Lorna, I think Dawn recently rented a lens, perhaps it would be worth asking her about it.

http://www.lensesforhire.co.uk/index.asp these are internet/mail order.

Good luck with the shoot aswell

Re: Renting Lenses - advice please?

Thats the one !

I 'd have loved to hire a pro zoom (about £30-£40) lens for my holiday

PS

Did you see their Canon EF 1200mm f/5.6 L USM
Weeks hire: £2,875.00

Still - it costs £75,000 though so fair enough I suppose.

Bet you'd have had to put a hefty retainer on that one

From what I can gather they (unlike other hiring firms) don't charge a deposit which is good.

Do you charge a deposit?

Generally no. We trust you to look after our gear. Please help us to maintain this policy by repaying our trust. If we can't satisfy ourselves that a customer is genuine, or if the transaction looks unusually risky for other reasons, then we may ask for a deposit. (That's why we ask so many questions.)

There are a number of situations in which we will routinely ask for a deposit though:

* If you’re under 18.
* If you live outside the UK.
* If you’re a foreign visitor to the UK.

Re: Renting Lenses - advice please?

I haven't used them personally but I know of people who have used Calumet and they were pleased with them. I would be interested on hearing who Dawn rented with though.

I must say, give the type of photography you will be doing (christening etc) I don't think those lenses are the best choice (but that is merely my own personal opinion ).

Re: Renting Lenses - advice please?

I used http://www.theflashcentre.com Cannot fault them, excellent service. Im renting again from them soon. they are a bit more than Lenses for Hire, but they have a brench near me, so without postage it worked out cheaper.

You can't beat having a good " brench" near you.
