Nikon 80-400mm f4.5-5.6 D AF VR Lens
Having had a look at the spec for the above lens I see it doesn't come with SWM (Silent Wave Motor) it still has the old screw drive method. Costing around £1200 (may be bit cheaper elsewhere) I would have expected it to have SWM spec. Nikon can include SWM on their cheaper lenses so I am wondering why not on this lens.

It's funny about these longer focal length lenses. They may have all the latest tech goodies like VR but on a tripod you're supposed to turn Vibration Reduction off. My 18-200mm 3.5-5.6 DX has the silent motor thingy and I flat love the VR handheld. At the price of your lens Bazza I would have expected more. Friends here think I was nuts to spend $800 for the 18-200mm, not me.

Maybe the lens is due an update - aren't most of their new ones now AFS G?

Hmm - sounds like it could be a useful lens, but I would prefer SWM on it too.
