Ae-l / Af-l

ive pretty much tried out all the setting on my nikon D80 but still puzzle what these are for !

AE-L .... AF-L
Kit 1
nikon D80
nikon 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 AF-s IF-ED
50mm nifty fifty
Kit 2
nikon F55
AF nikon 28-80mm F/3.3-5.6

ARGH! I always forget this one! Its got something to do with keeping the settings while in AF mode?

AF-L i think is auto focus lock
AE-L is metering lock aka Auto exposure lock

so for eg you want the sky to be correctly exposed but dont want to focus on it - Spot meter the sky - press AE-L and then refocus?

Can someone confirm for me purleez??

They are not needed all the time no - just in certain situations...

oh have to try that out sometime !you mean i focus at the sky then hold AE-L and point at whatever i plan to take ? coz when i press the AE-L button nowt seem to come up or i just have to guess lol

Im not entirley sure TBH Iv never used it myself - It should give you instructions in your manual - then write it down in your notebook so you have it to hand next time your out
