This means you can sacrifice perfect exposure a little and up your shutter speed to get the sharper shots.
Not ideal - but certainly useful in dark conditions with fast moving subjects.
An image taken in low light with a high ISO setting and deliberately underexposed with intent of rectifying it in Lightoom/PS would result in an image that I would certainly not want to present to a prospective customer.

High ISO equals higher noise. Increasing the exposure in Lightoom/PS equals more noise introduced. Noise piled on top of noise will not result in an image that many would be proud of.

Re: Nikon lenses... which one??

I of course bow to your experience - I am only a beginner after all, but what I was trying to say was that if I was in a dark conditions with fast moving objects, I would aim to get focus right by upping my shutter speed rather than aiming for absolute perfect exposure. You can have a go at rectifying exposure PP in lightroom but you can never get back lost focus.

Re: Nikon lenses... which one??

hi guys - i really appreciate the replys....

i know i sound really thick and im planning to read the book again - but just havent had the time (long story) BUT shooting in RAW what setting/why and how?

Im going on friday to practise agility and taken on board everything you alll have said - should i be using my 18-55 or 70-300?? Suppose i should try both - i can get as close as i want i think

Beek asked too to do pictures for someones baby and anothe rpersons family - i obviously will not be charging as im practising.... but im fully insured (yay )"!

The insurance was a no brainer really being £5 a month as i dont fancy being slammed witha hefty lawsuit if someone tripped over my equipment...

I found a lense for £109... which is a 1.8 nikon lensee i think it was 55mm which ive shot a horse show in and its possible to do agility with that - but it wasnt autofocus i dont think?

but im not 100% about that lense....

I will find the link and show you guys as i dont fancy making any expensive mistakes!!!

In about a month though (student loan) i can buy a £400 lense and IFi need it

See outside - i can shoot agility pics no problem - i have done and if my timing was spot on they would be fab pics

again - thank you guys i really really appreciate help *goes off to rep*

Re: Nikon lenses... which one??

I actually feel you don't need a new lens. The 18-55 zoom is fast enough & versatile enough to suit your needs. If you'd like to add something that can stop a bullet while yielding great doggie shots buy an SB600 Nikon Speedlite. A good flash can make action shots a snap.

You might talk with Patch, one of our members. She photographs the same events and uses a D40. Ask which lenses she prefers & why. :0
