Show me your 'nifty fifty' shots

Looking at the Canon EF 50 mm f/1.8 II Lens and would like to see what you guys have achieved with a Canon or a Nikon nifty fifty

LOL.. That went back, it fell 6in (if that) onto carpet and lines appeared on the screen. 3rd time lucky. Wish I had picked the Canon up first.

Do you have any pics Dave with a 50 lens?

Re: Show me your 'nifty fifty' shots

I have a few taken with my Olympus manual lens from film days somewhere. It's pin sharp and f1.8 so very good for low light. With the 2x crop factor on the 510 though it has the field of view of a 100mm. i'll see what I can dig out mate

Re: Show me your 'nifty fifty' shots

Bear in mind my 50 is a manual focus, so i used live view and focussed using 10x magnification

Re: Show me your 'nifty fifty' shots

It's a fairly cheap lens in terms of it's construction and it's obviously a fixed focal length (50mm) rather than a zoom but don't let that put you off.

It's a very popular lens and having a maximum aperture of f.1.8 is great for getting shots with a really shallow depth of focus. Another advantage of that nice big f1.8 aperture is you can take shots indoors or in low light without having to use flash or crank up the ISO.

Here's a few randoms....

Canon EF 17-40mm f/4 L USM
Canon EF 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM
Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 L IS USM
Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II
