The London Protest

Hi guys

I'm sure some of you were aware of the protest by both professional and amateur photographers in Trafalgar Square over the weekend, against the (sometimes) over-the-top stop and search powers that the police use against innocent photographers taking pictures in public places.

Here is an interesting link from Sky News, which has a handy little video embedded showing some of the protestors, as well as some details about what powers the police actually have, should you ever be approached by them when taking pictures.

Re: The London Protest

Thanks for the link MD.

Bout time they scrapped the stupid section 44!! If a terrorists wants pics all they need to do is look on google earth

The banning serves a dual purpose tho - it makes it easier for the police to control THEM being photographed when doing things wrong, like man-handling of protesters, catching them in the act etc.

Re: The London Protest

I have not been stopped per say, I did have a couple of police (one man and one woman) stop and ask me what I was doing, I told them I was taking photos of a building (the local Guildhall) and they went on their merry way.

I can see it could be frustrating, especially if someone was asked to stop or move on in a public place.

The act has not been stopped, from what I undertand the police now need a reason, which is pretty stupid as it's a terrorist act, and they just say I thought they were engaged in terrorist activity!

I might however lead to some clearer instruction to the force from their peers on what to do and to leave 'togs' alone for a while.
