"Plank" discovers printer default settings

Yes its me thats a "plank", I have been looking into computer screen printer calibration and what I didn't realise is that my HP Photosmart 8150 was set on the HP colour calibration setting.
So I have altered it to a default of sRGB, and what a difference to the final prints.
Yes I know I should have thought of it before but I didn't,so there. So if you have a photographic printer check out the settings, and change them like I did, (took some finding) and notice the difference.

Re: "Plank" discovers printer default settings

So can we call you a plank from now on Bazza? Or what about 'wolly' that Dawn calls from time to time?

Re: "Plank" discovers printer default settings

Snapper

Its there somewhere, it took me ages to find out as well. My Hewlett Packard deskjet 1220c printer was on the sRGB as default already, but not the HP Photosmart 8150. They don't want you to change it is my opinion for whatever reason.
This is how I found it for the photosmart printer

Start-settings-printer/fax- right click over printer-properties-colour management . There is the drop down list, or at least is on my computer. I then changed to manual settings against the auto default . Whereas it was on HP photosmart 8100 premium plus etc (printer default) just below that was the sRGB setting which I made the default.

Unless you have your camera to shoot in Adobe colour which most cameras don't have as default. Then the above won't help.

May give you some idea of where to look

Re: "Plank" discovers printer default settings

Thanks Bazza will go take a look, you would think the colour management options would be a selling point but having tried to find it on my PC based information and setting I looked on the site expecting it to be in the technical description of the models on offer, no luck there either. Mine is a Canon and bought because it prints DVD disks with ease, I hardly ever print a photo.

Re: "Plank" discovers printer default settings

That infomation with Hewlett Packard- HP photosmart and now as you say with Canon- is all hidden, therfore I would suspect it is the same for all printers. Don't ask me why. Maybe I am not such a "plank" as first thought.

Re: "Plank" discovers printer default settings

Well I have found the colour management drop down but I am none the wiser as there is a list of letters and numbers to choose from but nothing I understand so I left it on automatic. As I don't use Cannon paper that is probably not the best but it seems near enough for the DVDs so I think I will leave well alone till I have found out more information. One thing with Canon you do get a large manual (unopened) so I may take a look and see if it offers any info on colour management.

Re: "Plank" discovers printer default settings

At least you have found it, if there is sRGB in that list that is what you should go for. I don't understand why Canon should also hide that list

Re: "Plank" discovers printer default settings

That would be simple Bazza but what they list are things like this CNB92EBO and I think they are all Canon colour combos, they don't list sGRB or GRB or even CMYK.
