Advice on Canon Lenses

As one or two of you may know from dogsey, I got my first dslr back in January (the 12th to be excat:lol).

It is a Canon EOS 300D, and is silver(), It came with 2 batteries, the charger for batteries, a strap, software cds and the 18-55mm kit lens, But no manual (what a shame)

And best of all it was FREE

But anyway back onto lenses, It's my 18th soon (10th march) and my lovely parents said they would get me a lens and I also still have most of my money from x-mas, So looking for advice on best lens/es to get.

Don't want to go over £300 preferably closer to £200

Most of my pics are close ups or potraits of the dog's, but would still like to be able to take good landscape shots.

So which lens/lenses should I look into/get?

Thanks

Re: Advice on Canon Lenses

I'll let the canonites answer

But a 50mm is usually good for head/shoulder shots (portraits) and an 85mm is ideal for upper body shots

Nikon 55-200mm VR
Kit 2
Nikon D40
Nikon 18-55mm

Re: Advice on Canon Lenses

50mm 1.8 is fantastic for both landscapes and portraits... costs around £80

Hi Rose.
I have just ordered a 50mm 2.5 macro prime lens. Its good for close ups and for portraits and gives good background blur. It cost me £180.

Thanks Sam, What's the best place to get one of these?

Could I also get your guy's opinion on this lens

http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Produc...a%2Blenses.htm

Is it good bad etc. What would it be best used for, or mainly used for?

Also anyone who shows or goes to dog shows, What lens would be best for that setting? for zooming in to each individual dog, but also for shots of the whole ring(or as much as possible)

Thanks

Re: Advice on Canon Lenses

My 50mm came from Warehouse Express where i get most of my kit from

For dog shows or anything where you are going to be at the side and sometimes quite far away i would use a lens with a good focal range... a Tamron 70-300 would be good as its cheeper than others, but i have used my Canon 70-200mm 2.8 IS USM L but thats a lot more expensive at well over £1k

Thanks Sam, Had a look on Warehouse Express after you posted this, have found a few things I had been looking for for a good price, so thank you

Would the one I posted the link to in my last post be ok for dog shows etc, It's a Canon EF 90-300 Zoom F/4.5-5.6 Lens or would one lower than 90 be better?
