Edinburgh 02

A few more ( non UFO related ) shots from my visit to Edinburgh the other day.

1. Back up on Calton Hill, a view looking over the City towards Edinburgh Castle, just as the Sun begins to set

2. The same view, just a little later and with a wider angle

3. Another monument on Calton Hill itself, is the Dugald Stewart Monument, erected in 1831 in memory of the Scottish philosopher.

4. The Cannon on Calton Hill, aimed high over the City. It's actually a Portuguese cannon won during the Burmese War. It was donated to the City by the Government in 1886 and was displayed during the Edinburgh International Exhibition of Science, Art and Industry the same year.

5. Another big-sky view of the City from the top of Calton Hill

6. Back down onto street level now, and a view looking left from the North Bridge, showing the Christmas carnival on the road up to the Castle and the famous Bank Of Scotland Headquarters

7. Again from the North Bridge, this time looking right, over towards Princes Street and the Scott Monument

8. The view from Princes street

9. Looking across the roof tops of Waverley Station towards the Old Town

10. Back on Princes Street, buses whiz past the Jenners department store.

11. A b&w conversion of the ferris wheel

12. Next to the ferris wheel, is another old favourite, the Helter Skelter

13. There was something really magical about seeing this thing in the snow

14. They also had the swings

15. A christmas tree on The Mound, an artificial hill, created by the dumping of over 1 and a half million cartloads of earth, excavated from the draining of the Nor Loch, which today forms the Princes Street Gardens and the foundation of Princes Street itself.
Oh, and The Mound isn't just the little hill with snow on it. Basically everything you see in images 6, 8, 9 and 15, with the exception of the Castle, are all on The Mound

16. And again, to finish off, a few shots of Edinburgh Castle

17.

18.

Thanks for looking, and I'm sorry there were no UFOs this time

Another lovely set Ian.

I think 4 is my favourite - cool sky and the angle of the canon works really well.

I actually purposely shot it with the lampost in frame DJ. As you can see in image 4, there are numerous clear views of that particular monument, and I took several shots of roughly the same composition without the lampost, but looking at them side by side, I preferred the one I've shown here. I just felt it added something different.

How's this?
A quick edit job and it's gone.

I'm in the camp that prefers to have the lamp post present. Perhaps if I would have seen the edited shot prior, maybe I'd think differently. Without it, to me it looks a tad odd; something about the rising landscape which, to me, the lamp post helped balance out.

Another great set of shots! I prefer the color Ferris Wheel to the B&W, though.
