the optimum viewing distance to any printed matter is apparently 2.5 times the diagonal of what ever the print is. So for bigger prints it doesnt have to be 'photo quality' as the eye reconstructs the image when viewed from the optimum distance.

If you know the size you want it to be, then as you open the photo in photoshop to edit it, put in the right dpi and the right image size/canvas side and you'll be golden!
