Latest Agility pics :o)

Helloooooo, yes I`m still in the land of the living, just incredibly busy at the mo so have been neglectful of my favourite places including YoP

One of the things keeping me so busy is....playing with my camera - it`s Azz`s fault for starting Yop, if it were`nt for him and the great advice here I would still be obliviously happy thinking my old compact was the best camera ever

Sooo, last week I was at Dogs In Need which is a major week long Agility show and I took the camera along [ there`s a shocker ], and am still ploughing my way through the 3000+ shots I took there

These are a few of my favourites so far, as always critiques are most welcome though with me having been so quiet here of late I would`nt blame anyone for skipping past to punish my absence

A couple of things I struggled with - the light was really bright all week, very glarey, so I fiddled with the aperture setting a fair bit, sometimes it worked a treat but other times I still got glare so thats a work in progress aspect for me, also ground was rather scorched so where there is yellow tinge that was the colour of the grass in the affected rings, it seemed to cause a fair bit of purple noise so have had to pp where affected - again a work in progress aspect for me.

There was a pro photographer at the show so being a cheeky mare I decided to ask for advice [ and to ask what general settings he was mainly using himself ] and he surprised me a bit - as some of you here know I used to aim at the jumps then take a shot when the dog came into view - which often resulted in perfectly sharp crisp jump poles but very blurred dogs - so following advice here I started trying out panning instead which I have found to get much better results - but the pro said to stop panning and to do the focus on the jumps and wait for the dogs to come into view
I have to admit I just nodded politely and thanked him for taking the time to give me advice - then rightly or wrongly I just carried on panning

Anyhow, I`d best get going, sooo many pics to pp, non stop Agility training til Monday then a horse show to go to but when I catch up with myself I will be back properly and can get back to learning from everyone else`s fab photo`s here

Number 2,3 and 5 are my favs.

I have always found Panning good...and I don't know which photographer it was.....but if it is the one I brought prints off a couple of years ago I was not impressed.

Glad you had fun at DIN.....I haven't been there for years. We used to do 2 weeks at Ardingly then a week at DIN....3 solid weeks of agility - we must have been mad

Re: Latest Agility pics :o)

I have to say personally I don't pan for such things - I have taken a fair few horse jumping shots in the past (don't even know where they are ATM!) but always used the focusing on the general area technique! I suppose it's just each to their own and whatever they find easiest!

Onto your photos - they are really good Patch - you've made *such* an improvement! I love 1, 2 and 5 personally.

Great shots! Love the intensity in 1, but 5 is my favourite - sharp where it counts and all that fur flying around! (Number 3 worries me a bit - she's not looking where she's going - I see a crash landing happening!!)

You've come a long way Patch. Certainly these latest photographs don't belong in the Beginner's Section. I love the last photo, #6. I imagine a tight crop on just the head would be quite dramatic.
