1st Macro shots
Hi guys 
I finally bought my first macro lens the other day.
It's the Sony 100mm F2.8, and I've been really pleased with it so far.
Here are my first shots using the new lens.
I don't really like creepie-crawlies, or beasties as wee call them up here, so I started off pretty far away, but gradually got closer and closer as my confidence grew.
These were all taken hand-held and without the use of a flash.
I will definitely use a tripod the next time, as it's so easy to lose your focal point without one.
1. Shot at 100mm F3.2 1/160sec -2.0EV
2. Shot at 100mm F2.6 1/160sec -2.0EV
3. Shot at 100mm F2.8 1/320sec -2.0EV
4.Shot at 100mm F2.8 1/80sec -2.0EV
5.Shot at 100mm F5.0 1/125sec -2.0EV
6. Shot at 100mm FF2.8 1/200sec -2.0EV

Great shots.
Number 3 is my favourite.
I had a bit of a try with a tripod and found it very very difficult to get it in the right place to catch anything. It is fine for stationary things but I found unpredicatble insects hard to keep up with.
I had more success with a monopod but my best shots have all been handheld.

That looks like an excellent quality lens MD and some quality captures with it too, especially 5 and 6 stand out for me, fantastic quality. It should be an excellent all round lens too, portraits, low light shooting etc

I had a go a while back with my 18-200mm lens at some close up stuff, I think I took some shots of moss growing on my shed roof, but they weren't proper macro shots. So this is indeed my first time getting up-close and personal with nature

I think the difference is night and day.

It is a decent lens. It's very fast and at 2.8 it's excellent for low light shooting. Practically noise free.
I thought about using it for portraits too, and it was a real pain trying to decide between this and the 50mm macro, which as we all know, the nifty fifty is a fabulous all rounder, especially for portraits.
But in the end, I opted for the 100mm, and I've been very pleased with it so far.
The shots above came out not bad, considering it was windy, I was hand held, and I was also shaking with fear at seeing these things up close.
