photoshop or not?

When you are out taking photos, do you take them with the thought in mind that you will photoshop it?

Do you always ps a photo?

Do you hardly ever ps a photo?

Do you never ps a photo?

Do you think 'oh well if it is not right I can ps it?'

I am in the camp that I would rather it come out of the camera without the need for ps. Except maybe a crop.

Remember guys no answer is the wrong answer because everybody has different ways of doing things.

Re: photoshop or not?

When people say "photoshop it", it makes me curious as to what context they mean it in? Does it mean a tweek or a full blown edit?

Well they both serve a pupose and are both a means to an end. If its a cr@p photo, its a cr@p photo and no amount of pp will correct it.

I personally feel that ps is a fundamental part of a photographers kit, just as a dark room is part of film photographers. You will find that even "the best" of photos can do with a colour boost, sharpen, curve adjustment ect ect and doubt that you will find many pros that will produce images straight out the camera for clients.

When i shoot, i dont shoot to PP and i dont shoot not to either. If it needs it, it needs it.

Re: photoshop or not?

When you are out taking photos, do you take them with the thought in mind that you will photoshop it? if i am out and have an idea for something then i will take it for PS such as the canal shot yesterday was taken specifically for Tiny Town

Do you always ps a photo? no, not anymore, i haven't used photoshop for image editing for a long time, i will however do a thorough check of an image in aperture and make sure there are no real glaring mistakes, i tend to use photoshop and aperture the same way as a traditional film would use a dark room, adjusting brightness and contratc where needed and that sort of editing

Do you think 'oh well if it is not right I can ps it?' I try not to, i now try and get the best shot possible before PS but when i get back and find its not what i wanted then i do think "thank god for PS" but as i get better that feeling is becoming rarer

I am in the camp that I would rather it come out of the camera without the need for ps. Except maybe a crop.i am also coming round to this way of thinking

Never. I 'hope' they come out good enough

I don't like spending more than 60 seconds editing a photo. I usually just do slight levels, crop/resize, and slight sharpen to compensate for reduction in size. Sometimes edit out a blip/spot. Usually spend less than 15 seconds from opening an image in PS to exporting it for uploading I really don't have much time.

Re: photoshop or not?

I tend to ditch the crap ones (which is a lot) and then of those I keep about half go through Photoshop.

For me the usual 'going through photoshop' consists of : Reviewing and changing (if it improves the shot) brightness/contrast, dodge/burn the odd area, sharpening, and crop.

Sometimes though I'll go a bit mad and do something whacky in photoshop for fun.

Re: photoshop or not?

I think most would prefer to get the photo correct when taking it, however although I am not in favour of rebuilding a photo in an editing suit, there maybe justification to tweak a picture to remove unwanted sections etc.

Re: photoshop or not?

I'll try and get the photo as i want it from the camera, if i photoshop any, it's usually levels/crop... rather than bin the image...

if im doing a panoramic style shot, then yes i've got photoshop in mind while im taking it.
and if i take a raw image, then again photoshop will be in the picture at some point

Re: photoshop or not?

i always try and do mine mostly straight out of the camera but i do some levels (very little) as i can never get the exposures right ! also adding texture layers anyway my cr@p photos goes straight in the bin !!
