I like candids and portraits, but in general I like them to be a little more interactive with the subject matter caught looking at you. At these 40's days, the re-enactors are usually happy to oblige in posing. You don't have to take passive shots, they will cooperate with your requirements.
It's a nice shot, sums up everything we need to know, a senior officer with the union jack allows us to know there is a war just won! Not sure I like that man in green with his attention grabbing red scarf. You might want to change the colour of that, or maybe even a black and white conversion can often make the background less noticeable - it's what I do sometimes.
