thandi i know how you feel ! my 18-135mm is in hospital too TWO WEEKS ! feel abit depress without my camera so i had a go of my old film 28-80 len on to D80 today and still crap !!! i love my 18-135mm as i can do landscapes aswell as flower shoots

Weeeelllll, I bit the bullet today and bought the 70-200 mm f2.8 plus a 1.4x teleconverter so here's hoping for a nice weekend so I can try em out

How does the teleconverter work? Does it take the reach to say 300mm ?

It'll make into to a 280mm lens with a loss of 1 f/ stop. Which will be fine as the dof at 2.8 would generally be too little for what I wanna shoot.

You need at least a f/2.8 or faster as the converter means that as well as increasing the focal length has the same less desirable effect on the aperture reducing the aperture by a stop so on a f5.6 lens it would be too slow really to use.

Also don't forget that several lenses loose the ability to autofocus after f5.6 (or f8 depending on the body you are using).
