I think he's just saying there is only so much you can do in PP with regards to anything to do with 'zooming in' or cropping past 100%.

We often have the same discussion about 'upscaling' of video content - while upscaling may producer smoother lines/images, it cannot 'fill in the blanks' and create image data that was never there to begin with. It's kinda hard to explain to people who do not understand image resolution.
