Its a log - about 8' long, it has been there for a very long time but never really noticed it before - I really seem to pay more attention to things now I have the camera permentantly round my neck! The trees hang over the water - I'd imagine it just fell off. I don't think anyone put it there deliberately. Its fairly solid, although the tide washes over it twice a day so I'd imagine it will rot fairly soon.
