Twitchers

A group of birders at my local patch looking for a Hulmes-leaf warbler.

The object of their search.

About the size of a Goldcrest always on the move not the easiest bird to photograph.

Re: Twitchers

Certainly is Azz, these days photographers outnumber birders at a rare bird sighting, most have top of the range kit i can only dream of.

Re: Twitchers

I should imagine feet and hands become very cold during the many hours waiting.

I know very little about birds, but we had a wren in the garden at the weekend and that did not stay in one spot for more than a few seconds, so I can imagine how hard it is to capture a shot.

Your spot on Cakey, there is a film of a book coming out about 3 twitchers in America called The Big Year, about 3 individuals going for the record. The book is great providing an insight into the lengths people will go too to see a bird.

Stars Steve Martin, Jack Black, and Owen Wilson, hope they do the book justice.

Re: Twitchers

Sadly, many of us birders (and bird photographers) are given a bad name by some I notice in UK it's far more hostile than here in Ireland. There's not toooo many of us, most of us know each other, and it's a pretty friendly little group. Of course there are some power struggles and a bit of backbiting, but generally it's pretty decent. Also - always less people at twitches! Was Karl, myself and 3/4 others watching a Red Eyed Vireo a couple of days ago <3
