Not quite the M1!

Drive out of Abu Dhabi and take the road west towards Saudi and at some point you will see a turn for the Liwa Oasis. You can then drive a long way and don't see anyone else...in fact you can even be stupid enough to turn off the road and get your car stuck in the sand like I did! It's absolutely red hot... have to hope you can dig yourself out before the sun gets you...seriously! 4 wheel drive after that episode but it would have been no issue if I had the big v8 Nissan Armadas we used for work.

Anyway, suprisingly, in the desert not all roads are dirt tracks, this one constructed by loads of poor Asian labourers worked all hours for about 70 quid a month

Ooops! 2nd edit: Originally stated D200, 12-24 Nikon I think...now realised this was on a D80 with 18-135mm at 35mm, sorry! ...posted more for interest than anything

Edit: Hey, just posted this and noticed I have become a 'Senior member'! Wha...hoo! better than a 'senior citizen' I suppose although i often feel like one! Do I get a badge?!

Re: Not quite the M1!

Gosh those roads bring back memories! I used to live in Saudi. My dad works on the RAF base with the Tornados

Re: Not quite the M1!

Hey KK, if you lived there you would only be able to look at the roads and cross them...the girlies (theoretically) aren't allowed to drive! Hey, there's an idea...traffic congestion halved...

Re: Not quite the M1!

I really like this shot. Nice composition and it has real impact.

I've not much to offer from a cc point of view although there's a few crop options.

Re: Not quite the M1!

Thanks Phil, I know you have a good eye from seeing your work so feel free to suggest ideas... I have posted another crop I had of the same too.

Incidentally, the white areas are salt...a friend was round my house as I was posting and didn't know what it was. Never seen the real desert so it's not obvious. The sand is very red-orange but the saturation is tweaked up in this shot.

Re: Not quite the M1!

Definately barriers IN for me, they help with the composition - they lead ones eyes into the direction of travel along the road.
