Becky (Glamour)

I have been a little busy the past couple of weeks and finally got round to doing some personal work yesterday.

Hope you like it.

2 x home made strip lights fitted with an SB80 each for the rim ( still experimenting with them) and 2 x vivitar 285's in a 28" softbox.

Re: Becky (Glamour)

Beautiful model, lovely lighting... but something doesn't quite look right :/ it could be the colour in the cheeks with the colour of the underwear, although, I think perhaps it's just that she looks a little uneasy, like she's not comfortable with the shot, if you get me? Hope I'm not speaking out of turn? Otherwise a really well executed shot

Re: Becky (Glamour)

First of all I have to say I don't know enough about this type of photography so my comments are purely on what is presented before me, without knowing the technical details reguarding the pose-lighting- background etc. So I may be completely wrong or missing the point

Not commenting on the model (lovely though she is), she doesn't seem to stand out from the background but blends in with it. My attention is draw towards the hair style leaving the rest of the picture as an afterthought. The rest of the picture is taken up with the sameness of background and body colour tone with too much emphesis on lighting, causing a flattening effect across the whole picture.

Strange as it may seem I find young ladies partially clothed in photographs leave me cold, I would much rather seem them fully clothed in a natural surrounding, ie woodland glade -leaning on a field fence or similar.

If it really has to be a studio type of photo a couple of props would help. I was not just thinking of the standard chair setup but hand held props like sunglasses etc against just her hands on her waist
If she actually doing something against a straight foreward look to one side of the camera to add interest in my poor opinion would improve the photo no end.

As i said at the beginning I know little about this kind of photography, but as a possible suggestion, how about looking more closely in magazines at the content of similar shots it might give some ideas.

Trying to be constructive and not imply adverse comments

Re: Becky (Glamour)

Fantastic shot Jonni, I like the way the light comes from down low either side of the model. the only very slight nit is the background colour is a little uneven in the bottom right corner up to her elbow. The blown hair is a nice touch too.

Re: Becky (Glamour)

I think its brilliant and would like to think I could take some thing similar one day.
theres two bits that need tidying to me ...one is her left elbow area as Ken said and the other is a patch or weird light on her right shoulder going down to the elbow.

Re: Becky (Glamour)

May I say first that it is an extremely sharp photo. I'm not crazy about the hair, feeling it's not attractive in the least and takes away from the photo. It's not a flattering pose as the creases in the hand on her hip are too pronounced. The lighting is ok but too high key for my taste. As was mentioned already there just seems to be something slightly off about the whole shot. I wish I could be more specific.

Re: Becky (Glamour)

Many thanks for your feedback.
The rim lights are not right yet as they are home made and there is more light coming from the bottom than the top as mentioned by Ken (under her arm). I think i may of solved the problem now and will be doing a similar Image soon with all your feedback in place.

Re: Becky (Glamour)

I think it great Jonni. Apart from the arm and shoulder (that I wouldn't have noticed). I like the whole thing. It's not a whack in the face like so many you see in the glamour mags. It's a nice soft mellow tone all over. And the hair tops if off.

Note to everyone: Please remember I haven't a clue what I'm on about
