China Town London - CLOSED

Had an unexpected experience today... I thought I'd try out my 40D in central London in the late afternoon, to see what it could and couldn't do - and what I could do with it and not do with it from a competency perspective...

For anyone that knows London, China town is a long pedestrianised street in the West End, and contains somewhere in the region of 40-50 Chinese restaurants..

If you go any day of the week, any hour of the day, it's always busy. There are normally hundreds of people in the restaurants, it's always buzzing with activity...

Today was quite different though...

Every restaurant was closed. Every one. Every Chinese shop, supermarket, take away, travel agency and even the HSBC bank - closed.

Why? In protest at the Immigration services recent crackdown on illegal immigrants... (Which is another interesting debate I am sure)

So here are a few shots of Chinatown in London earlier today.... Quite a different feel... This protest must have cost the businesses quite dearly - so I'm guessing they're pretty upset over this issue...

(It was early evening by this point - the street was in shadow, but the skies were still pretty bright - I was on ISO 1600 for the most part)

12. And isn't there always one (dare I say it - shoot me down) stupid woman - who holds her placard in front of the face of the guy with the microphone!

Re: China Town London - CLOSED

lol they must be pretty peeved

But I don't think there would have been raids without sufficient grounds...

There is this oriental guy who lives near my mums who has been arrested a few times for suspected people smugling! They have this huge boat! They also have an untrained Akita which keeps getting out and they use it more or less as a guard dog It's always outside and has a shed for shelter :d

Anyway back to your pics! I like the one where you got the guy to pose for you! People must think you are a professional photographer with your new 40D !!

Re: China Town London - CLOSED

Very touchy subject indeed! As Azz says, if nothing illegal was happening, then no raids would have been executed.
