4K movies in cameras anytime soon?

So it looks like the new high resolution TV standard is going to be 4K (currently it's 1080p). 4K TV's are around 4 times the resolution of 1080P.

Wonder how long before digital cameras catch-up?

One good thing that might come of it, is that while 4K reconrding won't be all that (just as 1080p isn't all that right now) 1080p will (or should!) be be pretty good on the new devices

Re: 4K movies in cameras anytime soon?

I think bandwidth is going to be key here, a good quality 4K broadcast will require so much bandwidth (bandwidth costs money) that a lot of broadcasters both terrestrial and satellite will use high compression ratios to keep the number of channels for a given bandwidth reasonable. This will mean that picture quality will not necessarily be as good as it should for 4K. It will be interesting to see how they manage it.

Yeah I don't think we'll see it broadcast for a while - but Blu Ray players that support 4K are already on sale... I can't wait to see a 4K movie on (hopefully) the PS4 (Playstation 4) (when it comes out, next year I think)
