Close-up What is it? Make it up!
I'm putting this here instead of the ID competition thread because I'm off to work shortly and won't be back until gone 16:30 GMT, and I don't want to slow down that thread.
Instead here are two stinkers...
I am looking for either the correct or the most inspired explanation for what they are, what they are used for, and why I took pictures of them.

I really haven't a clue... the second looks familiar, but I'm not sure why... it looks like something I might have seen when I was very very young - as an everyday object :/ hmm..
