Re: Backlight + noise

The backlighting is interesting - but the noise is a little strange on the flowers, doesn't make so much difference on the rest of the shot, but the flowers look a bit strange with it.

Re: Backlight + noise

Nah mate... rainy days in are a bit boring but I don't think you have cracked it with this one. It does just look like a pic of some flowers in a vase next to the window. Maybe has a bit of reflection from something to bounce some light back in, but not enough light into the flowers so they look a bit weak and underexposed aliong with the noise. Then there is the window frame cutting through the image, and the building on the left. Sorry it all sounds a bit harsh, but still life almost gives no excuses for any error. The subject isn't going to run away and you have complete control of absolutely everything until you get it right...

On a more positive note...yellow and blue, opposites in the colour spectrum, you see the translucency of the flower petals and the vase... for absolutely no money, and a bit of patience and forethought you could set up that shot exactly how you want and I can already think of an interesting way to do it.

Re: Backlight + noise

sorry BC I wasnt popping at you or Zzs I was just saying.
the noise is not what I was aiming for but as a result of auto ISO so I could have the shutter speed and F no I wanted .

Re: Backlight + noise

The noise is not just in the yellow flowers but over the whole image. I have viewed it at 200% and the noise is noticeable over the whole image but can be seen more clearly in the yellow.

Did you use a tripod or other means of keeping the camera steady. If yes then you would have been better off using the lowest ISO possible because the shutter speed would not have mattered because the flowers would have been unlikely to make a break for it

The result may have been quite unique if the raindrops on the window had blurred into streakiness (is that a word) with the long shutter speed.

Not quite there for me but keep experimenting.

Re: Backlight + noise

Cakey

Would you mind if I posted an edit here to demonstrate the streaky effect I was talking about.

Don't worry about saying no as I would understand

Cheers
