I don't have any good editing programs (just ones that came with the computer and Irfanview - I'd love if someone could reccomend a good, free editor )

Incase your interested the last photo is showing that you have taken 34911 pictures with that camera. I would say that an editing suite would definately help. You have had the camera contrast setting on high and to my mind possibly a lower setting would improve the pictures. Its nice to see you have left the exif files with the pictures, it helps to learn what settings others use.

I do like the composition that for me is spot on so well done.

Had a little play with your pictures using Photoshop Elements 7 (ebay £25/30 approx), it may well be worth buying or something similar.

I think the shots are good but the colours are cranked up too far for my taste. Too saturated and too much contrast, but I like natural, at least for the initial capture anyway. I thought the shots were good though, and isolating the subject with shallow depth of field. Possibly just need to raise the shutter speed, a notch (faster).



I'd definately recommend Elements as a good package, and it supports Adobe PSD files which can go into Photoshop proper. Corel do something like Paint Shop x2, or something like that name. Tesco were selling this at £14.97 a few weeks ago. the x3 version is now out. I think this is the package Moonstone tried and if she is happy with it then it must be good as she is more into PP then I can achieve.

The Gimp is free, as are older versions of Paint Shop Pro. There are loads more.

Well done - You might call them snaps but you've caught an interesting moment in all of those.

I really like the second of the three cheetah shots.

I love the second Cheetah shot, great movement captured, but all three have really captured their speed and movement,

Nice snoozy Mara in the first shot, and the Red Panda is gorgeous

They are a bit too strong on the contrast for my taste, but a lot could be improved in photo editing. How have you got your saturation, and contrast set up in camera?

BC- is right, I did pick up Corel Paint shop Pro X2 to try it, and it is a very good editing suite, and is even cheaper than elements. PS Elements is worth the money, you can buy it at a very reasonable price too, not sure how old you are, but students can get good discounts on Adobe editing packages.

Well, I like the saturation to be high, that was done afterwards on purpose - I much prefer the rich colours it brings out.
However i do agree that the contrast could have been better.

I have v6 and it is very powerful.
I have downloaded free actions that allow me to do layer masking so now it does everything I need ....for now.

Well as I always say, you do the photography primarily for yourself unless you are shooting as a pro and being paid for a result. How you see the colours will depend on your monitor, and everybody out here is also seeing those shots differently to a greater or lesser degree. Anyway it seems you have your own strong opinion on the colours and contrast so good luck with editing to taste.

A number of editing suites such as the Adobe ones quite often give you a 30 day trial.
