Sigma 24-70mm

Sigma 24-70mm F2.8 DG EX Macro
A brief review by me

I bought myself the Sigma 24-70mm the other day and its just arrived (the reason i didnt go for the Nikkor version is that i want to see if i get the use out of the range). Plonked it onto the D200 and tried my best to plead Jack Joseph to stay in one place (he didnt I hasten to add) to test out the sharpness.

I was rather dubious about this lens, I have seen so many mixed reviews on the results it was coming up with, so wanted to get it mounted and shotting ASAP. Getting it out of the box, the quality is rather good for the price
(as you woud expect from Sigma). Sturdy and quite weighty too. Once mounted I found the AF on the slower side, compared to that of my Nikkor 85mm 1.8, but still smooth. The manual focusing ring is a little on the stiff side and could become quite tireing if used extensivly (will report back after field test). However i would much rather it be on the stiff side, than loose.

The shots below was taken in my office. One shot at 24mm the other at 70mm. The results suprised me..

Excif Data
1/80 sec
F4
ISO 100
24mm

Overall, im chuffed with the lens and look forward to getting some more shots off with it!

Re: Sigma 24-70mm

I have the canon version and apart from being too soft at f2.8 i like it and use it a lot.
