Re: Portrait

Thanks all I love using the wider apertures - it gives a great DoF

Re: Portrait

Thanks CL I actually got this shot in our bedroom! LOL we have a masive window which lets in loads of light - I popped on my flash for a bit of extra light and to create some depth with shadows.

Re: Portrait

Hi KK

My first, immediate thought was..." Oh...a little heavy with the photoshop there, KK!"

But if you're saying that this is 100% unedited, apart from desaturation..then I can't quite put my finger on what it is that's not quite right about this image for me!

I too, thought you'd enhanced it by not only adding more blur...but also sharpening up the eyes like you sometimes do when editing your shots.

It's a nice pose, and he looks great in it, but there's just something not quite right about this shot for me
It looks slightly un-natural.

Sorry KK....

Sorry KK....

LOL dont apologise
The shot is practically straight out of the camera apart form the colour and increasing the contrast in his eyes - the unatural feel may be due to such a shallow DoF. Alot of portraiture is shot around F5.6 - F8, as i said earlier, this is F2.

Re: Portrait

I like the image, it does have a 'different' feel to it but I could not have said why if I had not read the thread. See what you mean about DOF it is just the face that is in focus and from just in front of the ear is starts to soften, the effect is clear if you look at the ribbing on the hat. I would never have thought of going that shallow, being happy as long as the background is a blur, will def have a go though it is lovely on this child and there must be other subjects where this would work. Sorry rambling again.
