Earths natural Satellite

Keeping up with the moon theme i thought i would give you all an idea of what the moon looks like through a 5 inch scope, and a daytime shot at that. Not possible to get all of the moon in the image because of the 5 inches FOV.
The scope is a Skywatcher Skymax 127, great for an observing scope as its very sharp, just not so good for photography as its a very slow in photography terms (f11.81). It has a focal length of 1500mm.

Image details - Exp 1/160 @ ISO 400.

As the scope has been connected to the camera and has no electrical connection there is no F-stop. Its just F-0.

The image has had a very very slight crop just to take off most of the vignetting.

As its a slow scope as well its not as sharp as it would be through a faster scope/lens but it still shows some good detail.

Oh if you view this as a full size image and think the edge of the moon looks a little wavery its the atmosphere/heat haze from the earth. If it stays like that later maybe a clear night of twinkling stars again

If anybody is wondering about craters on the moon. There are over 30000 that can be seen from the Earth once its full moon.

Thanks for looking

All that you touch
All that you see
All that you taste
All you feel.
All that you love
All that you hate
All you distrust
All you save.
All that you give
All that you deal
All that you buy,
beg, borrow or steal.
All you create
All you destroy
All that you do
All that you say.
All that you eat
And everyone you meet
All that you slight
And everyone you fight.
All that is now
All that is gone
All that's to come
and everything under the sun is in tune
but the sun is eclipsed by the moon.

"There is no dark side of the moon really. Matter of fact it's all dark."

Just thought its very apt and from one of my very favorite albums of all time `Dark Side of the Moon`

Re: Earths natural Satellite

Nice read Mark. I wish I had the money to buy a super duper scope.

That Floyd album goes into my ears at least once a month

Re: Earths natural Satellite

Thanks Dave The 5 inch not expensive...£300 give or take. Its all the other bits needed that bump up total cost......And, like i say, the Skymax 127 is just more of an observing scope, great as long as you did not want to get into astro photography

Im glad to hear it as well Dave about floyd album being given air time
