Re: I have bought a dog

Steve....The only training I am interested in at the moment is toilet training everything else will come after.............

He seems a contented little thing ...is asleep now...bless him

so any toilet training tips would be helpful

Re: I have bought a dog

I think I have worded it wrong , and been misunderstood

I am very much laidback with the dogs I have now, and all the others before them, they've all turned out great (I think). I do like puppy classes though,it's fun, if the approach is right, and it's a good way to make dog friends in the area. I am all about fun, and play with puppies, and I am totally positive in any training, think I worded it wrong.

Enjoy your pup Jols, and take masses of pics. XX

Personally, Id do ALL the socialising you can as soon as you can, that way you will have a well balanced dog who is used to everything. Thats me though.

Soon as he wakes up, take him out. Wait however long it takes, when he wees BIG praise, then back inside. Same as when he has eaten or played etc.. As much as every couple hours.

Re: I have bought a dog

I think with every puppy one should be issued with miles of absorbent paper roll

With Benson, my last pup, it was suggested by his breeder to use a word whenever he went to toilet. I used "Bizzy" as soon as he started having a pee outside and lots of praise. Now he will pee on command. Brilliant and very useful in certain circumstances.

Never too old to learn new tricks. Me I mean

Jols, watch your pup closely and you will soon see signs of it wanting to relieve itself. It may be a certain look or mannerism but you will pick up on it eventually and when you see that behaviour take the pup outside and give it opportunity to pee.

There will be plenty of mistakes by yourself(missing cues, not peeing) and by the pup but you will get there.

Agreed Dawn, before they enter their fear stage at about 12/14 weeks old.

Jols, if your vet runs puppy socialisation classes I would encourage you to take yours along. It puts your pup into contact with other pups of similar ages and in a different location.

Re: I have bought a dog

Great advice so far and thanks.

Last night was the first night all seemed to be well he only whined twice for a couple of minutes once at 11pm and again at 2am.................. i though was awake all night just listening ha ha.

When I got up in the morning he had pooped in his cage and walked it all over.......

So lesson number one dont put lots of blackets and cuddly stuff in his cage newspaper or an old towel will do..............

and another question....when he whined should i of got up and taken him outside?

I am asking this question on here rather than dogsey cause I know a lot of you have dogs and will answer me...lol
