All work and no play........

Looks like you had near perfect (photography wise) weather.

That first shot is a peach - I appreciate wedding photography often throws up the same shots but I have to say that's a bit different.

Re: Wedding sneek peek :)

I'm sure you have done a great job for the couple Sam and will have all the right shots. Weddings are a lot of pressure to get right and i am sure they will get an album to be proud of. The exposures look good. What do you run your D700 on for most stuff? I tend to shoot around third stop or more under set permanently and choose matrix or spot.

I didn't think the shots above quite have your overall PP style though, they look good but a bit different to what you usually produce, maybe it's just the lighting is a bit flat. They look fine, just a bit different.

Re: Wedding sneek peek :)

Hi Sam,

Congratulations on taking on another wedding, baring in mind I have never done a wedding I hope you will take the my comments in the spirit they are given.

1. This is a beautiful, beautiful picture, great angle and excellent bokeh.

2. This a popular photo at weddings, a take on the Reservoir Dogs theme, and you have captured the movement very well. Maybe a slightly contrasty B&W conversion, perhaps a lanscape format taken from a lower viewpoint could suit the photo better. Would work well as a part of a B&W spread of individual males in the album.

3. This comes across as a very static and unflattering picture, especially for the two ‘heavier’ girls either side, front and with the youngest bridesmaid placed at the back. Maybe a less 'posed' looking picture with the girls surrounding and angled in toward the bride, the small girl to the front and all interacting with the bride.

4. A great idea for a fun photo.

5. Lovely atmospheric picture, maybe the bride looking adoringly at her groom instead of someone else would have improved the overall effect of the photo.

On a personal note I hate rounded corners, they remind me of the hundreds of holiday snaps from the 80's printed at Prontoprint!

As I said I have never photographed a wedding so I hope I have not overstepped the mark with this critique, it is meant to be constructive.

It was pretty over cast for the most part - hence the flat light BUT we did get some sunshine. I think the overcast was a real blessing though as it means no hard shadows

My mostly used goto setting is spot metering - my exposure comp is changes depending on what im shooting - yesterday for the dress I was shooting at 1-2 stops + and the darker suits the same but - a few stops.

My PP is more or less the same. I run through the same thing for my outdoors shots - high contrast and colour - my indoor shoots tend to be more subtle

Thank-you - I was desperate to try this on out - i did the same shoot with the Groom and best man but with their Aviators

2. This a popular photo at weddings, a take on the Reservoir Dogs theme, and you have captured the movement very well. Yeah - you got the reference - i have shot a few more in landscape and lower down too - this is just one version. The others to compliment it are shots of the grooms men individually stood and then walking towards the camera

Again this is just one shot of a few different poses we did. I deliberately put the flower girl towards the back to avoid clashing with the brides dress at the front. In hindsight though I think you may be right in having her at the front

4. A great idea for a fun photo.

It was inspired by the "Love is" series of cartoons that were in the papers years ago

5. Lovely atmospheric picture, maybe the bride looking adoringly at her groom instead of someone else would have improved the overall effect of the photo.

Thank-you - the emphasis of this one is for the ring - but i do have another on file with the bride looking at the groom

On a personal note I hate rounded corners, they remind me of the hundreds of holiday snaps from the 80's printed at Prontoprint!

LOL these are just to help stop them from being printed at standard 4x6 without the white corners They wont be going in the album like that x

As I said I have never photographed a wedding so I hope I have not overstepped the mark with this critique, it is meant to be constructive.

I always find your CC very helpful and worth while - never be afriad to tell me what you think x
