Lightship Columbia

I wasn't quite sure if this photo belonged in Transport but it's close enough. I rode my motorcycle to Astoria, OR this morning to visit the Columbia River Gorge Maritime Museum. Out back they always have the floating lighthouse known as the Columbia Lightship. There are guided tours of this vessel as well as the Coast Guard cutter docked next to the lightship. Both ships are well maintained and very clean and colorful. I've made visits to this location many times before, always looking for the "perfect" day. Today was close as 73 degrees at the end of July is really great weather.

Re: Lightship Columbia

The first shot was taken on a different day with a pocket Nikon digital. The second was photographed yesterday with my D40X and a polorizer on the 18-55mm zoom. The polorizer make a big difference.

Re: Lightship Columbia

Bob

Tell you what, you can have the Columbia and I will have the Coast Guard vessel.

Great pics wish I was somewhere that I could get shots like that.

Re: Lightship Columbia

Thanks all for the kind replies. A polorizing filter does make a dramatic difference with outdoor photos, especially skies. You can actually see the difference between the first and second photo.
