A minor achievement...

Just had a minor success in a Leicestershire photo competition. Idea was to capture Leicestershire through a lens.

I had an email advising I was a finalist and tonight was the judging at a get together of the finalists in the 3 age brackets, basically kids, teenagers and adults. Standard was really good, one girl in the 12-18 group, aged 18, did some really good work, and in the adult group there were some really nice quality shots. I'd suggest to anyone here go and look at their local camera club exhibitions and see the standard that people are working to. They are your fellow amateurs and hobbyists...amazing and quite daunting.

In the adult group there was a winner and a runner up, both great shots. They also decided to award a highly commended certificate, I got that. Damn, didn't win a cash prize but nice to get 'a place' and some recognition of what we do. This was the picture. I did publish a slightly different version of this shot a month or two back.

Re: A minor achievement...

Congratulations BC it is a good feeling ain't it. The shot is good but I am sure it is much better full size. I can't make up my mind if it is a winter shot or not the trees look snow laden but I think it may be light colour leaf.

Congrats again - here have another JD

Thanks, you know I don't need prompting to hit the JD!

It was taken in spring, played with certain effects in mono, infrared effect, diffuse glow. It does look better bigger. The leaves were quite light coloured.

Yep, feel a small sense of achievement. However, even though the judges were happy with my shot, more than anything I know the technical quality and final presentation standard has to be raised.

Re: A minor achievement...

I know that fountain so well, I loved Town Hall square when I was growing up in Leicester, especially when they did the Christmas displays....you've got a really nice shot of it there!!

I remember one year it completely froze solid, which was really spectacular!
