Re: Today was a drag...

Just wondering about skin tones. There are some areas that really are quite grey. Is that the make up, the lighting or the PP? Could they be warmed up a little?

Re: Today was a drag...

Nice composition and framing BC. But I don't think the angle is very flattering for her? One of the challenges to people shots imo, is finding the persons 'best side' or the angle that works well for that person.

Re: Today was a drag...

Folks you are probably right, the shot is a waste of time. There is grey, and yes, sadly when someone is on stage and you are merely in the audience and not of a status enough to have a stage pass short of a a pair of stilts you can't really get the angle! We'll just call this one a miss i think.

Re: Today was a drag...

Love a Drag Queen! I think the problem is the PP, it's too grungey, she needs Glamour, it isn't the image, if you PP'd it in a more glam way, it'd work IMO.

A diffused glow/ Mono could work well, tone down the lights and soften her skin. Or, a softer, colouring, all over. Or go the opposite, make it all about the colour and fun, more camp

Shame you couldn't get more of her dress in the frame, but if you were stuck there's not a lot you can do about it.

Re: Today was a drag...

I don't think it was a waste of time at all BC

I think it was one of the hardest shots you've taken, because of the added challenges - and I guess you would have taken a lot away from that.

Look forward to seeing more shots of similar non-conventional subjects in the future!

Re: Today was a drag...

I disagree with much of what's said (there's a surprise!) I actually really like it (but then, my opinions have been slated a few times lately for being 'wrong'). I like that she *looks* like what she is - a drag queen. I think the grungey colour tones, the harsh angle that doesn't flatter - I think they work really well. I like the composition very much indeed - and the only thing for me that I'm just not sure with, would be the light strips - I think they dominate a little.

Nice work BC!

Re: Today was a drag...

I like it too Zoundz,

It makes me giggle when I really like a pic and then a dozen people go on to say what is wrong with it.

I seem to be the only one that like the lights.

Re: Today was a drag...

Oh I like it, we are just extending BC opinions / ideas on ways it could be improved as he requested C&C - a courtesy that he returns when critiquing our pictures. Thats how we learn.
I'd rather people pointed out flaws in my pictures, even if overall they like it, as that is how I will improve and move forward.
'Nice one mate' doesn't help anyone when critique has been requested.

Re: Today was a drag...

Of course not Critique is very very important, and something I value very highly (don't tend to do it for people much though anymore, had my head bitten off too many times in the past for daring to have an opinion or idea ), I was just offering alternative ideas on it myself! I liked the things others seem to think was wrong with it that's all
