New P&S Panasonic Lumix TS5

Been naughty, went out for a rechargable battery charger and came home with a new P&S

Really pleased with it, especially as it has full manual, so much more control, has a lot of scene modes, which I probably won't use, but it does have a Pinhole mode that looks fun. The filmgrain mode, would be good for urban type shots, where you want some edge.

Anyway, here a few quickies, as soon as it was charged, nothing exciting, few shots in the house and garden. All OOC except for resizing and adding the text to each shot. Just snaps But, the difference in the clarity and sharpness compared to my older P&S is amazing.

So far, really pleased with it, think it's going to be a great camera to keep with me all the time. It's great, because it's nice and wide, so great P&S to travel with.

Makes me want a GF1, even more now

# 12.1 Megapixel CCD
# F3.3-4.9, 12X optical zoom Leica lens, equivalent to 25 - 300 mm
# Optical image stabilization; this is new "Power OIS" version, which is better at reducing shake than the old "Mega OIS" system
# Compact body (by ultra zoom standards) comes in silver and black
# Uses new Venus Engine VI processor
# New Intelligent Resolution feature produces sharper edges and textures, while keeping things like skin tones softer

* This feature also allows for a 1.3X digital zoom with a minimal drop in image quality

# 2.7" LCD display with 230,000 pixels
# Full manual controls (save for focus and RAW support) -- finally!
# Intelligent Auto Mode selects a scene mode for you, detects and recognizes faces, tracks a moving subject, and more
# New "Happy Mode" (only in Japan...) optimizes color, saturation, and brightness to make photos stand out
# Records movies at 1280 x 720 (30 fps) using M-JPEG codec; optical zoom can be used in movie mode
# 40MB onboard memory + SD/SDHC/SDXC slot
# Uses DMW-BCG10 li-ion battery; 340 shots per charge

Re: New P&S Panasonic Lumix TS5

The difference between this and my last Panasonic is huge, even full size the pictures are good, not so with my old P&S.

I got the name wrong as it's different here than the UK, it's the ZS5 in the US, and the TZ8 in the UK.

I can see me using this a lot, as it's really small, but takes good images too. Seeing, as I will probably use it, mostly outside, I am really pleased with it.

Price wise, I got it for roughly $270 USD
In the Uk, it's 240 ish GBP, so that is roughly $369 USD So, a bit of a price difference

Re: New P&S Panasonic Lumix TS5

Yes, that's it, but if you want better movies the TZ7 is better, they have the same lens. But the TZ7's movie mode is better, it has also got a bigger LCD screen, but neither of these things bothered me. Also, the zoom is fine at 12X but not brilliant, and though you can go to 16x the quality drops.

I think there is a Canon one, that has a better zoom capabilities, will find the review.

I choose this one because I wanted wide angle for travelling, had no need for movies, or wanted longer zoom. For what I want it for ,it's perfectOutside, travelling about.

Re: New P&S Panasonic Lumix TS5

Yes, they are very close in specs, it just depends what you want to use it for. I don't use movie facilities on P&S's so have no need for it, I wanted a good camera, to keep me all the time, that could shoot wide, mostly for outdoor use.

TZ7 is rated better for movies, than the TZ8,same lenses though.

Azz- isn't that a bit weird, posting pics of your house on the web? I love those windows too, they are on the landing, overlooking the stairwell.
