my first pics with my new dslr :)

Hey all, I've only previously posted in the introduction part of this site but I have got a new shiney DSLR and wanted to post my first few pictures to get some feedback. I am loving the camera, much better than my fz8

not too sure on this one, the petal on the left looks a bit blurred, what do you think?

My gorgeous (IMO lol) cat Meeka

This was at my boyfriends mom's garden, this little fella was not scared of us humans at all!

Thanks for looking and feedback welcome

Very well done!

Like the first shot, just the blue thing distracts a little. Lovely cat too!

Great shots Louise - love the last shot!!

Agree with Dawn about the first shot (the blue) but otherwise it's great. And in the cat photo I'd have given it a bit more breathing room as it feels a little cramped - but again still a nice shot

Re: my first pics with my new dslr :)

Really lovely set of pictures. You have an eye for composition.
I love your little signature.

I'm guessing with your first photo that you used quite a shallow depth of field which is why some is in focus while other bits are softer. I personally think this works well with flower shots. You have a lovely creamy backgound just a shame bout the blue patch.

Number 2 is lovely. Nice clear eyes with pretty catchlights. I agree though that it feels a little cramped. I think it would work better if the cat had space to look into - so more background showing on the right hand side of the photo. Have you room for that with your original?

Number 3 is another lovely image - a super capture.
I think it would have worked a little better if the robin was slightly lower - a third of the way down rather than a quarter. Its hard to tell as the image is small but it looks a little oversharpened to me. What kind of PP did you do on it? If you did apply sharpening to give more clarity to the robin then you might like to try masking it away from the background.

Overall, great work. I can't wait to see more images from your new camera.

Re: my first pics with my new dslr :)

Hi all, thanks for the replies and I really appreciate the feedback

The blue thing... hmm I'll see what (if anything) I can do about that

The kitty pic is SOOC, I was playing with close ups and guess I went too close lol

The sparrow is just cropped, I didn't want to get too close as I am petrified of birds lmao but I will have a look at it in photoshop, I thought it looked too sharp tbh but wasn't sure if it was my monitor so it's good that you all see the same.
I have now purchased a tripod and a remote shutter thingy so maybe I'll just set the camera up next time I am there and take the pics from a distance
