What a turn around

Good evening everybody!!!!

It seems very quiet in here tonight.

I decided to try out something this evening that was suggested to me by DaisyChain a few days ago, and that was to reverse my lens when taking photos of insects. Doing this comes with lots of difficulties. But with a little patience i managed to get a couple of results that i could of only dreamt of a few days ago. Now my two targets, a member of the beetle family and i think the other a member of the fruit fly family. The Fly was a little bit smaller than a nib of a pen, and the Beetle a tad bigger than the fly. Focus again is not perfect, i find this very difficult, as you need very steady hands and with a little breeze blowing through the flowers the target can quickly go out of focus.

You've done well as it's not the easiest thing to do with a reversed lens - rocking back and forth to focus with such shallow depth of focus available - esp when there's a breeze.

Thanks Phil. I think it worked out 1 ok image out of every 10, if i start getting some decent results though that will be good enough for me until i can afford a decent macro lens

These 2 bugs, due to their size were a lot easier to photograph than the larger bugs, with me having to hold the lens between an inch and 2 inches away from them it did not seem to faze them, unlike when imaging anything larger, too close and they have gone.

I thought a weevil was a kind of beetle?? Part of the same family.... Where beetles generally can spread their wings and fly and weevils have wings but cant fly, this one spread its wings and flew, hence me calling it a beetle. I know very little about antropods though and other tiny insects that make home in our garden, but i have had to start reading up about some as i started growing my own fruit and veg this year and this has brought a whole army of other insects into the garden. Not good for the veg but there is plenty of opportunity to photograph them

Yes, a weevil is a kind of beetle! I was just narrowing it down for you! Some can fly and some can't

Thankyou Eileen too. Personally i like the fly, capturing it with a little water droplet like that, and even though most of us hate flies, the colors on some species are quite cool
