Butterflies and Moth

A few Butterflies and a moth taken at Aston Rowant and Cowleaze woods in the Chilterns.

Ive done my best to identify each one but there maybe one or 2 which im not 100% on as a few have very similar markings in the same species of Butterfly.

1. Brimstone

2. Meadow Brown

3. Scruffy looking Red Admiral

4. Silver Spotted Skipper?

5. Either a Silver Studded Blue or a Chalkhill Blue, not really sure at all as a lot of blues have very similar markings, i have a feeling its the latter.

6. Speckled Wood : Had one shot at this one, taken in a shady area of Cowleaze woods, camera settings all wrong so image came out dark, played around in PS, once lightened up image was very noisy so decided to take away colour. No where near perfect but i like it

7. 6 Spotted Burnet Moth. Struggled to capture a decent image of this one even with attempts to process the image i couldnt do anything to stop it looking washed out, it looks like the spots have been hand painted on.

Re: Butterflies and Moth

Thanks Grumpy & Skyline
We had planned on visiting Aston Rowant to watch the Red Kites as this is very much Red Kite country but made it around the reserve without seeing one flying close by, seen plenty on the way in though, but only from the M40. So it ended up with me photographing Butterfly most of the day, the place is teaming with them, very hard to capture a good photo of them though as they do not stay around for long, with it being so bright with the sun as well taking a good photo ended up more misses than hits.

Re: Butterflies and Moth

What a wonderful collection of butts and the moth...
I usually spend most of the summer getting photos of butterflies but last winter was so cold here that nearly all our butts dies out. Getting one or two a day show up at the flowers in the yard and those very ragged looking. I love the big Tiger Swallowtails but only saw one so far this year...last year I would see hundreds every day. These are not the kinds I hope to find but just as beautiful. Hugs, Shirley
